2013 Carignan

Considering its warm Mediterranean origins, Carignan is perfectly suited to the growing conditions in Paso Robles. Rustic techniques like whole cluster fermentation, foot treading, and gentle basket pressing, ensure that the true nature of this intriguing variety shines through in the finished wine. Earthy notes of smoke and old leaves provide a mellow backdrop for vibrant fruit, floral, and spice aromas. With lush plum and bright black cherry, faded rose and crushed fennel, the nose is layered and inviting. On the palate, the wine is refreshingly elegant, with dusty, fine-grained tannin, opulent fruit, and perfectly balanced acidity. It finishes with just a hint of toasty oak.
