2015 Chrome

The 2015 vintage yielded some amazing wines. Small amounts of them, yes, but still amazing. It seems as though the vineyards were tired from five years of drought and an extended battle with frost events - they just didn’t offer up much fruit. What was exciting about 2015 though, was the quality. The flavors are intense. The textures are compact and balanced. The wines are delicious, if rare! Chrome is a blend of Grenache Blanc from two different vineyards, La Vista (Adelaida District) and Self Family (Templeton Gap), along with a small amount of a more obscure variety, Clairette Blanche. The ordinarily searing focus of Grenache Blanc is softened by a creamy, floral characteristic that comes from the Clairette. The wine, then, shows generous apricot and quince fruit, with peace rose and spun sugar. In the mouth, a full, fruity palate with a core of mineral finishes with a suggestion of saltiness.
