Ranchero Cellars is cornerstoned on Carignan. Its lush fruit, spicy palate, and racy backbone delight. Its rustic history and warm-climate origins make it an easy fit with Paso Robles' country spirit and sun-drenched Westside hills. The 2014 vintage, with textbook weather patterns and almost perfect ripening, saw the Self Family Vineyard's coming of age. This Carignan, then, has a fruit character more typical of Paso Robles, where previous vintages showed more European. Generous plum and berry on the nose leave the spice and anise in the background to blend with subtle, earthy grace notes. On the palate, the wine shows perfect balance - bold, supple tannin coupled with opulent fruit. It finishes long and dense, with hints of rose petal and toasty oak.
